Sabancı Foundation was selected once more to the Board of Directors of the EFC in 2020 for three years, after serving two consecutive terms in the Board in 2011 and 2014.

In 2020, Sabancı Foundation continued its memberships to the European Foundation Centre (EFC) and Council on Foundations (COF), along with its international cooperation with Girls Not Brides, Synergos Global Philanthropists Circle and other similar organizations.

Sabancı Foundation, which has been a member of the European Foundation Centre (EFC) since 1991, was selected once more to the Board of Directors of the EFC in 2020 for three years, after serving two consecutive terms in the Board in 2011 and 2014.

European Foundation Centre 2020 Annual General Assembly

The European Foundation Centre held its Annual General Assembly online on May 20, 2020. The conference held each year in addition to the General Assembly meeting was postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic.

European Foundation Centre Gender Equality Thematic Network

Sabancı Foundation joined the European Foundation Center’s Gender Equality Thematic Network established in 2014 as a founding member. Along with Sabancı Foundation, which is the only foundation invited from Turkey, the other founding members of the network are Barrow Cadbury Trust, King Baudouin Foundation and Mama Cash Foundation. The Gender Equality Thematic Network carried on with its activities actively in 2020 as well. Sabancı Foundation General Manager Nevgül Bilsel Safkan was a speaker in a webinar titled “Gender Equality Through COVID-19” held on July 9, 2020.

European Consortium of Foundations on Human Rights and Disability

Sabancı Foundation is a founding member of the European Consortium of Foundations on Human Rights and Disability, which was established in 2009 to bring together grantmaking foundations and other relevant stakeholders for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Sabancı Foundation is the only foundation from Turkey in the Consortium that operates as the European Foundation Centre Disability Thematic Network today. The other founding members are foundations operating in Spain, France, Portugal, and Ireland. The Consortium continued its activities actively in 2020 as well. Sabancı Foundation contributed to “Accessibility Guidelines”, prepared by the members of the consortium, especially through the accessibility standards used in Philanthropy Seminars. The guidelines were translated from English to Turkish and were disseminated.

Zero Project Conference

The Zero Project Conference, in which Sabancı Foundation has been participating actively since 2013, took place on February 19-21 in 2020. Sabancı Foundation General Manager Nevgül Bilsel Safkan participated in the “Online Support and Information Resources for Persons with Disabilities and Their Families” session as the moderator, and in the “Impact Transfer Forum” as a speaker to mention Sabancı Foundation’s support to the program to spread it. She was also a speaker in the Impact Transfer session at Zero Project Latin America Conference, organized for the first time online on November 18-19, 2020.

Publications

An article titled “Guiding Turkey’s Changemakers” by Mina Yancı, Sabancı Foundation Programs Specialist, was published in Alliance Magazine. Sabancı Foundation Programs Coordinator Ayşegül Bayar’s article titled “Collective responses to gendered impacts of the pandemic: A case from Turkey”, which summarizes the meeting Sabancı Foundation organized to discuss the impact of the pandemic on women, was also published in Alliance Magazine.
